Programs

2 programs

Education & outreach program: fosc led field trips and classroom visits for 437 students, teaching the "why- and "how" of habitat protection and restoration. This year we expanded youth education with a 6-week spring stream team program in partnership with youth employment partnership. Our outreach includes expert-led community events, interactive meetings, and content for our growing communications network. This fiscal year, fosc held 19 events and saw a 12% increase in subscribers across platforms. We launched two park enhancement projects in the lower watershed, bringing local residents together in a shared commitment to revitalize urban green spaces.

Expenses: $79K

Advocacy program: fosc regularly works with city of oakland officials to advocate for the protection and restoration of our environment and natural resources. This fiscal year, we continued to advocate for the drafting and passage of a formal master plan for our public parks and conducted research into the designation of "resource conservation areas" throughout oakland. Fosc identified an untouched, reserve fund within the city of oakland meant for trail maintenance, and worked closely with the city's public works department to direct the funds toward trail erosion affecting the waterways within our restoration sites in joaquin miller park.
