Mission

Friends of the Eel Rivers mission is to protect and restore the Eel River watershed and its fisheries. Friends of the Eel Rivers keystone priority over the next decade is to restore fish passage to the Eel River headwaters.

Estuary and Lower River: FOER continued our public trust litigation against Humboldt County for failure to adequately protect surface flows impacted by groundwater extraction in the lower Eel basin.

Water Rights and Water Quality: FOER continued protests on three appropriative water rights applications to help improve projects and ensure lasting protection for aquatic resources, we also advocated for publication of flow studies from state agencies and researched water quality violations.

Public Lands: FOER led a grassroots campaign to protect public access to the Van Duzen River, faciliated the Great Redwood Trail Friends coalition, and provided valuable feedback on the Great Redwood Trail Agencys master planning and environmental scoping documents.
