Friends Of The North Carolina Library Blind & Physical Handicap

Audio and recordings is a program that provides the hindenburg software subscription which enables the library to record narration for books, magazines, and newsletters for the use of blind and visually-impaired library patrons, as well as the duxbury software subscription which is used for converting print files into braille format for embossing. During the 2025 fiscal year, the friends recorded 2 digital books and 22 digital magazine issues.

Reading programs is a program that sponsors prizes for reading programs, reading challenges, writing contests, and discussion groups. During the 2025 fiscal year, the friends provided funds to purchase prizes for writing and reading contests at the library. The eastern nc and western nc braille challenges totaled 59 participants, the summer and winter reading programs totaled 163 participants (155 adults, 8 youth), and the writing contest garnered 6 entries. The friends also organized a vip book discussion group in raleigh with 98 participants, and a charlotte book discussion group with 66 participants. All told the friends had 439 participants or attendees in its fy2025 programs.
