Raise funds for the sierra madre library for purchase of data bases, books, cd's, videos and to sponsor events such as the children's library, teen reading club, etc.

The "friends" acts as the custodian for the sommer library scholarship fund which was established by a retiring member of the board of trustees of the sierra madre library. The purpose of the fund is to provide grants to the sierra madre library employees to futher their education in library science. Employees are chosen by the grants committee comprising of a member of sierra madre library board of trustees, a representative of the library, and a member of the "friends".
