Mission

Gallery north is a not-for-profit fine art gallery with a mission to present exhibitions of contemporary artists and crafts persons, to assist and encourage artists by bringing their work to the attention of the public, and to stimulate interest in the arts by presenting innovative, educational programs. Furthermore, gallery north is organized to support artists of the long island region, to offer exhibitions and programming for the enjoyment of citizens of the state of new york, to embrace the role of diversity in strengthening the arts, and to engage in lawful acts or activities for which not-for-profit corporations may be organized under new york not-for-profit corporation law.

The organization provided classes and workshops in the studio at gallery north. These classes were in a variety of mediums, such as watercolor, life drawing, encaustic, paper making, as well as silkscreen and other printmaking processes, done in house on a printing press. Hundreds of students of all ages benefitted from over forty monthly, weekly, or individual art classes, including our summer art education program for kids summer artventures which ran for eight weeks from july to august. The studio also offered its art abilities program from fall 2023 to spring 2024 a free art program for those in our community who live with a disability of any kind. In addition, the studio also continued to offer the carmela kolman fellowship.

Expenses: $152K

The organization hosted its annual wet paint festival in june, featuring 60+ local artists. This annual, outdoor event provided the community with the unique opportunity to watch long island's plein air painters as they capture the area's natural beauty. This year, the festival included guided tours on art, nature, and the local history of setauket, as well as live music, food, and children's activities. The event was free and open to the public. All participants were then featured in an exhibition at gallery north.

Expenses: $9K

The organization held other special events for the benefit of the community, including the holiday markets in december. These markets were a series of new outdoor events held on saturdays during the holiday season to showcase the works of local, long island artists and makers, local musicians, and local eateries, as an alternative to holiday shopping in malls and retail stores. Furthermore, gallery north visitors were entertained by fine art exhibitions of the hundreds of the region's pre-eminent artists, including paul edelson, arthur bernstein, scorr farrell, lori rosen, lorena salcedo-wilson, and kellyn alder, among many others. Each exhibitions was complemented by an opening reception and in-person programming. All exhibitions, receptions, and programs were free and open to the public.
