Geel Community Services Inc

The geel apartment treatment program is licensed by the nys office of mental health to provide transitional, shared living for fifty-four individuals with severe and persistent mental illness with a goal to move to a more independent form of living and be stable in the community. This is achieved through intensive case management services and linkages with mental and physical health providers. The progam had a mean occupancy rate of ninety-two percent with twelve admissions and nine discharges with fifty five individuals receiving services. Particpants were stable in the community (community days) versus inpatient hospitalization (psychiatric and medical) for ninty-eight percent of total days in the program.

The geel grand ave studios - supported sro program provides housing and support services for fifty-six single adults which includes ten units set aside for low income residents and forty-six units for individuals who meet the hud chronic homeless definition. The housing utilization rate for this single site in the bronx was ninety-three percent the average legnth of stay of the residents in this program is over ten years. Project particpants spent almost ninety-nine percent of the days in the community (community days) versus inpatient hospitalization.
