Fiscal Justice: In 2024, the program advanced its objectives in economic and tax justice by supporting the development and dissemination of evidence-based recommendations and facilitating multi-stakeholder dialogue across national, regional, and global levels. It contributed to the integration of human rights considerations into fiscal policy discussions, including within the UN Tax Convention and G20 processes. At the regional level, the program supported the work of the Fiscal Platform for Latin America and the Caribbean and engaged with the ACHPR to explore the relationship between tax policy and economic, social, and cultural rights. Nationally, it provided technical input and analysis to partners in Kenya during discussions on tax reforms. The program also implemented capacity-strengthening initiatives, including training for journalists and communication campaigns, aimed at improving access to information and fostering public engagement.

Environmental Breakdown and Just Transitions: In 2024, the environmental justice program advanced efforts toward a just transition by integrating human rights, gender equality, and equity considerations into climate and energy policies. Key outputs included several publications and submissions to UN bodies, the development of the Guiding Principles for Gender Equality and Human Rights in the Energy Transition and a comparative legal analysis covering Brazil, Chile, Colombia, and Mexico, both of which provided concrete recommendations for aligning energy transitions with human rights standards. The program supported multi-stakeholder engagement through strategic events at COP29 and the 15th AWID Forum and collaborated with civil society networks to highlight the impacts of energy policies on Indigenous rights, labor transitions, and energy access.
