Mission
Great plains housing initiative (gphi) is a native-led nonprofit social enterprise housing developer dedicated to increasing housing opportunities for native people through innovative and sustainable strategies. We strive to earn the trust of tribal partners through innovative thinking, deep listening, and unwavering collaboration. We lead with integrity and do the work together. The activities of gphi are intended to help alleviate poverty, combat deterioration, develop and implement innovative homeownership development and financing opportunities for native american individuals, as well as support and build the capacity of the tribes and community lenders whose mission is in alignment with that of gphi's.
Programs
2 programs
Native impact fund (nif): gphi has established the native impact fund, a program aimed at increasing access to affordable mortgage capital in native communities by recapitalizing the portfolios of community lenders, including native community development financial institutions (native cdfis), credit unions, and other lenders serving native communities. Nif's purpose is to recapitalize funds through purchasing performing loans made by community lenders and issuing notes to accredited investors. The proceeds of these transactions in turn enable these community lenders to increase the number of housing loans originated in native communities.
Housing rehabilitation: gphi began the housing rehabilitation program with the webster house project, a donated home near a tribal community, which was rehabilitated with structural, safety, and energy efficiency upgrades. Upon completion, the home will be sold to maintain community ownership and provide safe, affordable housing. The program preserves neighborhood assets, supports homeownership, and promotes long-term community stability.
