Program Service: Expand the trail Volunteers have written grant applications, recruited qualified engineering firms, supervised consultants work doing environmental studies required for permits to install a new bridge. Many of the required permits are in place and a construction engineer has been engaged to replace the failing Dry Creek Bridge. Work on tearing out and replacing the bridge will begin as soon as weather and environmental conditions are appropriate - probably in September.
The trail's volunteer trail maintenance manager periodically takes a work crew (all volunteer) out to the trail to work on specific maintenance functions that can only be done by hand. Those crews clear culverts to prevent flooding, cut back impinging forest growth to keep the trail clear and make small repairs to the trail bed. Expenses associated with this program service are for the purchase of hand tools for those activities.
