Urban forestrygreensboro beautiful's tree planting programs help greensboro maintain its tree city usa status. Through these programs, citizens and volunteers play an active role in keeping the green in greensboro.(1) neighborwoods community tree planting programthis program provides residents an opportunity to plant trees on city-owned property, public areas, streets, and front lawns in areas of neighborhoods where (a) trees have been damaged or lost to storms, disease, or age (b) canopy cover is needed. Canopy tree replacement will be accomplished by utilizing open space and park land to replant larger trees to maintain canopy integrity (c) trees have been removed as part of ongoing vegetation management work associated with overhead utilities (d) neighborhoods are active and organized, with a commitment to participate in the planting and longterm maintenance of the trees, consistently watering for the first three years.the program is funded by private donations to greensboro beautiful's tree fund, with support from the city of greensboro and the guilford county extension master gardeners.(2) memorial & honor treesdonations to greensboro beautiful's memorial and honor gift tree program enables the organization to plant trees where needed in neighborhood parks, along city streets, in medians, and in other public areas for more than 40 years.

Greensboro's public gardensgreensboro beautiful has developed four distinct public gardens with the generous support of private contributions. While greensboro's gardens offer visual and sensory enjoyment, the impact goes beyond the surface of physical beauty. The gardens grow more than trees and flowers; they nurture strong communities by contributing to education, environmental conservation, health and recreation. The gardens are open year-round. Hours vary throughout the year. Admission is free.(1) tanger family bicentennial garden - known for its massive colorful plantings and bronze sculptures, the garden is a popular and relaxing retreat.(2) greensboro arboretum - this 17-acre site features 10 woody plant collections, special display gardens, and distinctive structural features.(3) gateway gardens - situated at one of the city's major entryways, gateway gardens integrates elements of playfulness, discovery, and elegance.(4) bog garden at benjamin park - a wetland home to numerous wildlife species and native plants.
