Groundwork bridgeport's mission is to bring about the sustained regeneration improvements and management of the physical environment by empowering people, businesses and organizations to promote environmental, economic, and social well being.

Land revitalization - the program addresses the urban heat island effect, the phenomenon of intense heat in urban areas caused by a high density of impervious surfaces and a lack of tree canopy. The program also directly addresses the reduction of biodiversity and damage to local ecosystems caused by climate change, and spurs action to reduce flooding brought about by extreme weather events.
