Expenses: $1.9M

Neighborhood grants initiative: this small-grants program awards direct funding to resident-led projects in west pullman, greater grand crossing, and austin. Residents determine the idea, recruit neighbors to participate, and habitat chicago funds it. Projects should enhance the look and feel of the neighborhood, but even more importantly, ensure neighbors connect and carry out the project together. During the fiscal year 2023, habitat chicago facilitated more than 38 group projects through its neighborhood grants initiative.

THE GREATER CHICAGO FOOD DEPOSITORY IS CHICAGOS FOOD BANK. WE BELIEVE A HEALTHY COMMUNITY STARTS WITH FOOD. THE FOOD DEPOSITORY IS PART OF A UNITED COMMUNITY EFFORT WORKING TO BRING FOOD, DIGNITY AND HOPE TO OUR COOK COUNTY NEIGHBORS. WE ACT AS THE HUB FOR A NETWORK OF MORE THAN 700 FOOD PANTRIES, SOUP KITCHENS, SHELTERS, AND OTHER PROGRAMS. THESE PROGRAMS PROVIDE FOOD WHERE ITS MOST NEEDED. WE ALSO ADDRESS THE ROOT CAUSES OF HUNGER. PUBLIC BENEFITS OUTREACH AND JOB TRAINING PROGRAMS OFFER SUPPORT FOR OUR NEIGHBORS TO OVERCOME POVERTY. AS THE FACE OF HUNGER IN OUR COMMUNITY HAS CHANGED, THE FOOD DEPOSITORY HAS EVOLVED. OUR PROGRAMS ADDRESS THE SPECIFIC NEEDS OF DIVERSE GROUPS, INCLUDING CHILDREN, OLDER ADULTS AND VETERANS. BY TAKING HUNGER OFF THE TABLE, WE ENABLE FAMILIES TO FOCUS ON OTHER PRIORITIES, LIKE EDUCATION, GROWTH, AND SECURITY. WE ENABLE COMMUNITIES TO FACE THEIR CHALLENGES WITH CONFIDENCE.

Habitat for Humanity is a global nonprofit housing organization working in local communities across all 50 states in the U.S. and in approximately 70 countries. Habitat's vision is of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Habitat works toward our vision by building strength, stability, and self-reliance in partnership with families in need of decent and affordable housing. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Seeking to put God's love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope. A world where everyone has a decent place to live.
