Our mission is sustained through a healthy mix of funding streams to support our operating needs, growth goals and strategic plan. Six ReStores, where we sell new and gently-used furniture, appliances, home decor, and building materials support our operational expenses. Donations from individuals, corporations, foundations and faith partners remain a strong financial resource for Habitat Charlotte Region, and public grants continue to enable us to scale our programs and pilot new programs.
Our Critical Home Repair program provides qualified families with significant home repairs, improving substandard housing conditions for those with limited financial resources and preserving affordable units in our community. Our team focuses on four essential health and safety issues: unsafe roofs or floors, lacking heat, electrical system hazards, and plumbing hazards while also addressing accessibility issues in and around the home. 126 families were served through this program during the year.
Building on the success of Money Matters, a financial literacy course focused on helping individuals become homebuyer ready, Habitat Charlotte Region expanded its financial literacy programming to offer three pathways depending on an individual's financial readiness. This approach allows us to provide a more customized experience and timeline based on an initial financial assessment. Through the expanded financial literacy program, now called Pathways and Partners, the affiliate helped 290 families. Habitat Charlotte Region is entering the final year of a four-year strategic plan focused on Expanding Programmatic Success, Investing in Organizational Strength and Executing with Equity. We work closely with several local nonprofits and peer organizations that refer potential homeowners to us while also providing wrap-around services to our families. Habitat Charlotte Region understand the effects of homeownership on asset-building and wealth, improved health effects of affordable housing, the positive effects of homeownership on educational outcomes, as well as the societal and environmental benefits of homeownership. During the year, Habitat Charlotte Region provided support to Habitat for Humanity International.
