Mission

Habitot offers hands-on exhibits and learning experiences for young children and their families. Along with outreach and inclusion programs for the most vulnerable, Habitot has welcomed over 1.5 million visitors since 1998 and influenced generations of children and parents in raising curious, creative and confident children.

Mobile Museum Tour - Habitot continued its Mobile Museum Tour with 9 full-day pop-up events in 6 cities in outdoor community parks, libraries, schools, and other venues across the East Bay. The most popular exhibits were presented along with art and maker stations facilitated by art and education staff. Exhibits include the Waterworks water play and discovery exhibit; Imagination Playground Blue Building Blocks; Paintable Wall; Magnetic Ball Wall; Baby Ball Pit and stations for art and maker stations. A sliding scale of $1-40 per family makes the events accessible to a wide range of projects. The Tour supported post-pandemic re-engagement of families and children in social situations, while also strengthening parent-child bonding. Additional free Arts & Crafts Days took place in Emeryville and Berkeley. Almost 2,300 parents and children attended 2024 events.

Expenses: $83K

Birthday Parties for Unhoused Children - Prior to the pandemic, Habitot welcomed dozens of children and families living in family shelters for their childrens birthday party at the museum, with Habitot providing a gift for the birthday child, food, drinks, a cake, and party to family shelters. This year, Habitot was able to reinstate its all-inclusive birthday parties for children experiencing homelessness in the Emeryville space. These parties included two hours of museum time for the birthday child and their guests, pizza, beverages, a personalized birthday cake, party favors for attending children and a hand-selected $25 gift for the birthday child.

Expenses: $7K

Habitot-at-Home and Kit-based Programs for Families - Habitot continued distribution of its STEM, art, and play-based learning kits created during the pandemic for at-home use. The kits were available for purchase and grants covered the cost of some kits distributed to low income and special needs families. Staff-led, how-to videos available through the YouTube channel were made available to guide parents in facilitating kit activities with their children, especially how to foster childrens learning of math and science concepts, language, and problem solving. In addition, Totmail e-newsletters containing instructions for art and STEM at-home activities were delivered to 4,000 households weekly with a high open rate of 30-40%.
