To preserve, interpret, and share the history of the harbor springs area, while encouraging curiosity and promoting an understanding of how the lessons of the past foster an informed community.

The andrew j. Blackbird museum is owned by the city of harbor springs. All of the exhibits and artifacts housed at the blackbird museum are owned by the city of harbor springs. The harbor springs area historical society was hired by the city of harbor springs to staff the museum so that it could remain open to the public while also managing their collection of native american artifacts and exhibits.
