Mission

HIWHA's primary exempt purpose is to assist the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) in maintaining the St. Clair Flats Wildlife Area, a public hunting area. HIWHA functions as a sharecropper and harvests leftover corn in the hunting areas after the waterfowl season. This corn is sold and the proceeds used to purchase seed and fertilizer for the following season, purchase and maintain harvest equipment, and provide funding for other needs as directed by the MDNR. St. Clair Flats is used by six to eight thousand waterfowl hunters annually.
