Mission
Harvard undergraduate women in computer science, inc. (wics) is dedicated to building a community of technical women at harvard and beyond. We believe every woman should have equal opportunity and encouragement to pursue computer science. We seek to empower women to consider careers in technology by providing education, mentorship, and role models for students at harvard and in the greater boston community. We strive to promote awareness of gender issues and to construct an environment for discussion and reform across universities and industries. We hope to create opportunities for individuals of all genders and interests to support these goals.
Programs
3 programs
Mentorship - our mentorships program provides an avenue for women to connect and learn from each other. It partners members of our community to help them navigate computer science at harvard and beyond.the wics mentorships program offers mentorships between harvard undergraduates. This program pairs over 200 mentors and mentees and offers mentorships-exclusive events in addition to more well-funded outings. With this program, mentees receive the opportunity to learn from and receive advice from an experienced upperclass student, and mentors have the chance to give back to the community at harvard. (we also offer a more limited-scope alumni mentorship program).mentors and mentees are encouraged to meet at least once a month (on sponsored outings) and to participate in program-wide events to better get to know each other and the larger wics community.
Advocacy - fighting inequality in the technology industry using data.
Other programs including wics mindfulness and girls who code as well as other programmatic activity of harvard undergraduate women in computer science.
