Hawaii Friends Of Restorative Justice

WCCC Gym. We collected donated funds to provide flooring and exercise equipment at the Hawai'i state Women's Community Correctional Center. Fundraisers from the Women's Prison Project obtained the donations and we used them to purchase equipment. We also have a volunteer who will help the women with classes using the equipment.

Research Corporation of the University of Hawaii/WCCC (state women's prison) Higher & Continuing Education Program for incarcerated women-we designed, provide a unique higher & continuing education program for imprisoned women that uses cooperative learning methodology to train and pay peer tutors and gives financial incentives to women who pass the GED; tutor supporters who come to observe and support the tutors in any way possible at the prison; college correspondence courses; educational materials for the prison including lap tops; reentry planning restorative justice process provided, and other resources. This program is ongoing. The revenue amount will be expended in 2024 and beyond.

GIA Huikahi Training. The GIA for 2024 is to train community facilitators to provide Huikahi reentry planning circles for people in prison or who are transitioning from prison back into the community. The process has been well researched and and is an established evidence based approach for assisting people reenter the community after incarceration. The Huikahi process been replicated in other states and countries. We are also scaling up the program with the GIA to had it over to a non-profit in Hawai'i that provides services to the incarcerated-WorkNet, Inc., which will provide the program after June 2025.

ESD. The purpose of this funding is to prevent the use of Electronic Smoking Devices (ESDs) by Hawai'i youth under age 18. ESDs, which include e-cigarettes, mods, vapes, and any similar devices containing nicotine or other substances, have been a growing concern. Prevention services under this grant will utilize the Stanford REACH Lab's Tobacco Prevention Toolkit.

The remaining programs include the following. Girl Group, Independent Donations, Kapilipono Program, Kalihi Leadership, Okumura, and Turbin Chu Scholarship.
