Hawaii island community development corporation was established on july 7, 1986, to provide families with low and moderate income with adequate housing and to acquire, construct and provide housing related activities.

Hicdc has developed 13 projects for low-income residents on the island of hawaii.these 13 projects have a total of 523 units most of which have federal rental assistanceas of december 31, 2024, the other rental project in the pipeline is the hale ola o mohouli project, a 90-unit family and senior rental project in hilo.

From 1996 through 2018, hicdc has developed seven subdivisions for a total of 174 lots. Hicdc is in the process of developing two (2) more subdivisions totaling 75 lots for affordable housing.
