Programs

Hawaii local2030 hub is engaging its 200-member partner network to accelerate restoration and improved management within maui's watersheds, report monitoring results through the state of hawaii's aloha+ dashboard, and is collaborating with key partners to develop innovative, community driven fund structures, putting native hawaiian and community values at the forefront through the malama implementation tool in efforts to mitigate and manage physical and financial risk. Hawaii local2030 hub is providing soft-touch project coordination across the six (6) entities delivering maui restoration work with bezos maui fund support, ensuring that projects are aligned with hawaii's 2030 sustainable development agenda and being counted towards its natural resource management and nature-based solutions pillar.
Hawaii local2030 hub supports an initiative to recharge aquifers and mitigate flooding and brown water runoff flowing into nearshore marine habitats. Rain gardens, bioswales, rain barrels, and other "green stormwater infrastructure" (gsi) are effective ways of achieving this by keeping rainwater where it falls. Using a proprietary and locally-developed app called "follow the drop" hawaii local2030 hub is able to conduct free rainwater assessments at properties across the ala wai watershed in order to identify and recommend appropriate gsi for homeowners and property managers. Hawaii local2030 hub was able to identify over 600 potential gsi projects as well as over 100 existing runoff capture solutions.
