Mental Health Service Provision HUT partners with Ukrainian organizations to provide localized mental health services for the communities that need them most. Since 2022, Ukrainian children have had their lives upended because of the war. Many have experienced traumatic events, loss of loved ones, separation from family and friends, destruction of homes, and ongoing Russian missile strikes. Teaching Recovery Techniques (TRT) is an evidence-based program that helps children in conflict and disaster areas process traumatic stress. This program was developed by the nonprofit Children & War and has been used in Ukraine since 2014. In 2024, Heal Ukraine Trauma grew our TRT program by 17%. We partnered with the All Ukrainian NGO Volunteers to deliver the program to 645 children, bringing the total number reached to nearly 1300. Children who participated reported that the program was useful (91 percent) and showed improvement on standard mental health assessments.

Education and Advocacy HUT supports innovative, evidence-based mental health care for veterans and their families impacted by the war. In September 2024, HUT, in collaboration with Ukrainian Psychedelic Research Association and the Forest Glade Centre for Mental Health and Rehabilitation, hosted a Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) Symposium in Kyiv. This groundbreaking event brought together key stakeholders to explore the science of ketamine, hear insights from experts in the field, and discuss KAP research and projects being implemented in Ukraine. The symposium fostered the growth of a therapeutic community committed to advancing KAP as an effective mental health intervention. Over 100 practitioners attended, reflecting the need for additional effective treatments to address the traumas of war. The HUT team is actively engaged in psychedelic education and legalization efforts, and advocacy for mental health care in Ukraine at conferences worldwide.
