Day programs: during the summer and fall of 2023 and may and june of 2024, hcsl presented 15 day programs at its property in jacona and for the santa fe public school's kiva (keeping independent visions alive) program. Kiva is the sfps's transition-to-work/life skills classroom for students with learning differences and special needs. Hcsl's fy 2023 day programs were attended by 112 individuals, including 63 adults with an intellectual disability and 49 caregivers and friends.hcsl's fy 2023 day programs featured visual art, movement/dance, music, and cooking activities that were inspired by the natural environment of its rural property in jacona. The arts day programs were created by visual artist and educator lucy ranney, hcsl's day programs coordinator, and were designed to be engaging, fun, and appropriate for adults with intellectual disabilities. During hcsl's 2023 arts programs, the participants made needle felted flags that were strung together to make a colorful banner; played a variety of percussion instruments and experimented with singing different notes and sounds; worked with clay to create animals and mini landscapes; learned about kestrels and tortoises: made different shapes with our bodies to learn how to dance; carved apple heads, and decorated fall lanterns with pressed flowers and dried leaves.in june of 2023, hcsl offered its first cooking program. During its 2023 fiscal year, hcsl presented several cooking programs in which the participants prepared recipes featuring spring vegetables like asparagus, spinach and carrots; made their own corn tortillas and salsa fresca; learned about sweet and savory foods by preparing blue corn griddle cakes with blueberry compote; made hummus and tabbouleh with vegetables from the garden; and celebrated the apple harvest by pressing cider and cooking apple sauce.clients from all individuals first in los alamos, as well as clients from santa fe-based agencies community options, rainbow road therapies, visions case management & consulting, and rise speech and language therapy, participated in hcsl's fy 2023 day programs, along with friends from the special olympics program of the taos winter sports team.other programming events are planned in july, august, and september of 2024 at hcsl's property in jacona. A program at the santa fe public school's kiva classroom is also planned for the fall of 2024. All hcsl's day pprograms are free to the participants, making them affordable to a wide range of adults with intellectual disabilities, their family members, and caregivers.number of people served: 112.
