High Point Village

Music therapy and speech therapy services are available with board- certified and licensed therapists on staff and on contract at high point village. Music therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of interventions to accomplish individualized goals within the following domains: physical, social, communication, cognitive, and emotional. Speech-language pathologists partner with villagers to reach their full potential by increasing their ability to understand others, share their thoughts and feelings, further communicate with others, and improve their ability to organize their thoughts, pay attention, remember, and solve problems. High point village offers individual and group sessions at various times during the day and evening for the convenience of those who are already at high point participating in other programs as well as for those who come to high point only for therapies. There are many individual successes reported by participants and families as well as the therapists.

Summer camps include day camps, overnight camps and evening camps. Day camps host campers ages 8 and above and include activities such as music and movement, crafts, games, and special guests from the community. Overnight camps are traditional camps for ages 18 and above and participate in traditional camp activities such as swimming, boating, hiking, archery and adventure courses. Other popular camps include art camp, cooking camp and summer nights camp.

Additional programs include afternoon enrichment classes which are designed for individuals with intellectual disabilities ages 8 and above. There are spring and fall semesters, each meeting one hour for each of 13 weeks. Recreational classes stress teamwork while improving coordination and health. Academic enrichment is provided through reading, while classes such as independent living and cooking build essential life skills. Fine arts and craft classes are very popular and provide opportunities for creativity. The underlying purpose of this program is to provide a supportive peer group and fun after-school activities. A fairly new program is respite weekends. Small groups of individuals with intellectual disabilities spend a weekend with trained high point village staff in a local airbnb home with the overall purpose of providing 48 hours of respite to their daily caregivers. Meaningful activities for these weekends include dining out, movies, and other community activities as well as planned activities in the home.
