Research and Education1. The Member Lecture Series, Salon El Zagun, continued and consisted of a mixture of online, hybrid, and in-person events. Salons included Dominic Cappello about the 100% New Mexico model to transform New Mexico into a place where every New Mexican can thrive, Lisa Nordstrum on New Mexico Historic Women Marker Program, Phil Hawes on his architecture in Santa Fe and the Southwest, Nicholas Hall on the history of El Rey Motel, Karla McWilliams on the history and architecture of the Bataan Memorial Building, Larry Crosby and Leslie Zane on the history of the Santa Fe Opera, Christian Waguespack on early 20th Century gay and lesbian artists, State Historian Rob Martinez on alabados, alabanzas, inditas, and corridos, Ethan Ortega on protecting cultural resources on State trust land, Kyle Maier spoke on Eva Scott Fenyes, and Dr. Alysia Abbott spoke on the Guadalupe Cemetery.2. Presented along with the City of Santa Fe Historic Preservation Division and the Old Santa Fe Association the Heritage Preservation Awards in May 2024 at San Miguel Chapel, 401 Old Santa Fe Trail. Produced an advertisement with local paper for the awards. 3. Presented the Architectural Stewardship Award in 2024 to the Amelia Hollenback House, 901 Camino San Acacio in recognition of the great care and effort, planning, design, and execution of the renovation and remodels of their house.4. Held monthly art exhibitions for El Zagun resident artists and invited outside artists. Exhibitions included a joint exhibition with Tamarind Institute, Julia Tait Dickenson, Jesse Littlebird, Galisteo Arts Association, Jesse Wood, Max Baptiste, Jesse Blanchard, Dominic Capello, Roland Ostheim. The following artists gave talks: Roland Ostheim, Jesse Littlebird, Max Baptiste, Jesse Wood, and Dominic Capello with a gallery walk-through With Tamarind Institute Director Diana Gaston.5. University of New Mexico graduate student Hayden McAfee completed his work as the Foundations Mac Watson Fellow. He completed his research and writing and the Foundation approved his nomination of the La Farge House. Selected University of New Mexico graduate student Ryuichi Nakayama as the 2025 Foundations Mac Watson Fellow. Under the mentorship of Dr. Audra Bellmore, University of New Mexico professor and curator of the John Gaw Meem archives, Nakayama began to research and write the nomination for the Plaza Balentine Compound.6. Approved and added the listing of the La Farge House to the HSFF register of properties.7. Continued with the online blog with articles from contributing, volunteer writers for dissemination of activities and news of the foundation, including book reviews of new publications of interest on the history, culture, architecture, archeology of the Santa Fe area and Southwest.8. Published two printed newsletters containing substantial articles, interviews, and preservation news.9. Held the annual meeting of Foundation members in the El Zagun garden in June with guests from the Santa Fe Extension Master Gardeners and presentation by Melanie McWhorter on the state of the Foundation and by board directors Greg Walke on the status of the Endangered Properties Program.10. Updated and refined website for the Foundation containing calendars, detailed photographs, and information on all related properties owned, easements, and the register of properties worthy of preservation. 11. Expanded the YouTube page with several Salon recordings and history of El Zagun.12. Continued to develop the related mobile application and map for Old Santa Fe today, 5th edition. Continued development of a childrens activity book on the history of El Zagun and preservation. Published the booklet and gave to students on the Free Family Days. 13. Continued walking and shuttle bus tours including a tour of historic cemeteries around Santa Fe with Dr. Alysia Abbott, tour of the historic Fort Stanton in Lincoln County, Mesilla Tour visited the largest collection of 19th-century Mexican retablos in the Us, tour of the Guadalupe House, and history of downtown Mesilla with preservationist Pat Taylor. Tour of Galisteo homes and studios. Walking tour of John Gaw Meems structures at Los Poblanos. Tour of Couse-Sharp Historic Site and Hacienda de los Martinez in Taos. A fundraising tour of El Zaguan and the Brooks House and the Olive Rush Memorial Studio. A year-end fundraiser and musical performance by Lone Pinon. 14. Hosted four fundraising events for our Stewards donor group at The Stone House, 607 East Palace, Llano Compound, The La Farge House, 607 E Palace Ave, and Georgia OKeeffe Houses. 15. Partnered with the Santa Fe Extension Master Gardeners for tours and workshops in the El Zagun garden.16.Ten volunteers were trained to work the front desk and to assist with other staff tasks. 17. Hosted two free Family Days at El Zaguan, one on July 27th and the other September 7th. Hosted the public to participate in preservation related events at El Zaguan including learning about the garden with Santa Fe Extension Master Gardeners. HSSF staff taught participants how to mix mud, form adobes in molds, and supervised building of imaginary adobe buildings. Participants were also given history tours and received free activity booklets. 18. High School Fellowship program continued in 2024. Five juniors and seniors from Capital High School and Santa Fe preparatory school met with State Preservation Officer Jeff Pappas, State Conservator Brad Epley, State Historian Rob Martinez, among others. Fellows delved into their research topics and began putting together their final research papers. In fall 2024 there was one High School Fellow. She researched and designed informational panels for John Gaw Meems Architectural Offices which are now Santa Fe Preparatory Schools Arts building. 19. The Edwin Brooks house, 553 Canyon Road, began to function as the Eugene and Clare Thaw Education and Research Center. Staff continued to relocate files to building to turn it into the Foundations storehouse for records, books, and paintings. Two talks, one High School Fellowship session, and one fundraiser were held there. A large donation of books from a retired historian was donated to the Foundation. These books, and books the foundation already had, established a reading room in the Brooks House. A photography show celebrating the reprint of Don Usners Sabinos Map was hung in this space. Regular open hours were held so the public could view the show. A fundraising dinner for the book and show was held here. 20. Docent tours were written and two volunteers hosted them. The tours tell the history of El Zaguan andn the Brooks house and introduce participants to preservation. 21. HSFF staff conducted Traditional Lime Wash Workshop Fall 2024, students learned histories of traditional Lime Wash use, Lime preparation and mixing, and application techniques.22. Created and hired for the new position of gallery and shop manager to assist with the gift shop, front desk, gallery, and venue rentals.

Preservation Trades Internship1. The Faith and John Gaw Meem Preservation Trades Internship was implemented for a 10-week, 400-hour period. Faith and John Gaw Meem Preservation Trades intern Samantha Crowley, hands-on adobe work at El Zagun, 545 Canyon Road and at Rancho de Las Golondrinas, 334 Los Pinos Road. Projects included working at Las Golondrinas to infill a doorway and work on mud plastering. Additional projects involved replastering the front entrance wall and other areas of El Zagun. Intern learned how to prepare appropriate plaster mixes with the available materials of sand, clay, straw, lime and water and experimented with changes in substrate materials. The Intern was introduced to basic carpentry and tool safety and use. Intern helped to create scaled adobe wooden forms and small-scale adobe production. Other projects included water infiltration mitigation on the historic Randall Davey Art Studio at the Randall Davey Audubon Center & Sanctuary in Santa Fe. Also, lead paint testing and re-priming of Randall Davey Painting Studio ceiling.
