Kahea Kaiaulu & Hui Pu Pa'akai ('Ohana Night) Papa Begins Orientation Curriculum 1-6 Ho'ike (April) Haumana and Team Debrief (May & June). In working with students using Photovoice, I realized that the method may not apply to indigenous mindsets, or the mindsets of everyday people who are NOT in academia. Leo Pa'i Ki'i was customized to indigenous mindsets, specific to Native Hawaiians and can be translated to other indigenous communities. Recognized across the U.S., Puerto Rico, France and Hawai'i, this method has proven successful and has been applied towards curriculum in healing, substance use prevention/intervention and with collegiate professors who teach a variety of disciplines such as English literature, Psychology 101, and Marine biology. The advancement of this curriculum is Ki'i Makawalu; where we utilize ike kupuna to create, shift and guide different subjects as an indirect approach to very specific teachings. Think of it as a the "master key" to weave cultural intelligence into universal subjects. Open to educators, professors, mentors, and students who work with indigenous cultures, specifically Native Hawaiians.
0HOALA NA KANAKA: SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGEMENT & TRAINING PROGRAM: Program participants: 2 Mni Wichoni Health Circle (MWHC). Duration: 6 months. Mni Wichoni Health Circle (MWHC) is making a major impact on the community of Standing Rock. Born out of the hashtag waterislife movement while the citizens of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribal Nation stood in opposition to the Dakota Access Pipeline, MWHC provided a pluralism of holistic healing services to the folks who were within the camp and beyond. Now that the MWHC has been operating within the boundaries of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, there is great movement around what health and healing services could and should be. Ho'aka Mana is to provide a social media/marketing template/outline on behalf of the MWHC. We will work together to design and develop culturally sustaining strategies for sharing the work and upcoming work of the MWHC, as well as creating a presence on social media. Below is a list of goals and a timeline included in the scope of work. Goal 1: Create a foundation for MWHC organization (1-2 months), this will include the following: Create google excel templates. Creating a color palette to consistently use. Develop a yearly calendar of important dates to create content/messaging around. Help create a process for telling the story (make sure our messaging follows our mission and is consistent across networks). Co-create content to share with community and social networks. Help update our website to share current information. Create a task management process. Goal 2: Create a strategy for sharing on social media platforms (1-3 months), this will include the following: Create a strategy for sharing on instagram, facebook, and website. Conduct interviews with Co-Executive Directors to get a sense of how They talk about the work and the organic messaging that exists. Hold a brainstorming session to initially map out all potential ideas for Social media/marketing strategy. Goal 3: Continued support and upkeep (3-6 months), this will include the Following: Meet bi-weekly to discuss needs, upcoming events, updates, etc. Train and collaborate with Co-Executive Directors and incoming Community Engagement Specialist who will carry this work forward. This will include, but not limited to, training in video creation and editing, when and where to capture images and videos, what angles to use, updating calendar, and scheduling content.
