Mission

Homefront's mission is to end homelessness in central new jersey by harnessing the caring, resources, and expertise of the community. We lessen the immediate pain of homelessness and help families become self-sufficient. We work to give our clients the skills and opportunities to ensure adequate incomes, and we work to increase the availability of adequate, affordable housing. We help homeless families advocate for themselves individually and collectively.

Programs

3 programs

Basic needshomefront believes that families need basic necessities to live a life with dignity. Faced with limited resources and a focus on surviving, the families we serve do not have the means to get basic necessities. We provide those resources to thousands of households a year, through our resource network: - furnish the future (providing furniture to families facing hardship)- freestore (where families can shop for clothing and small donated goods) - food pantries (including a main choice food market where families can shop for the items they want)- drive home (donations of cars)- diaper resource center (providing families with millions of diapers and wipes annually)- pro bono donations of time and expertise

Expenses: $7.2MGrants: $5.5M

Children's programswe believe that children nurtured by love and support will grow on a path to realizing life's possibilities. Homefront began because of hungry, homeless children and children have remained at the heart of our work ever since. From intensive services at our emergency shelter to an award-winning preschool to year-round enrichment programming and more, we wrap these children in the support they need now, provide hope for a better tomorrow and open their worlds to the possibilities that await them:- joy, hopes and dreams (minimum six days a week programming for school-aged, sites throughout mercer county)- atkinson child development center at family campus for infants to toddlers- children's champion (intensive case management support at the family preservation center)- eight-week summer camp - back-to-school and holiday wishes drives

Expenses: $2.2MGrants: $528K

Tools for self-sufficiencyhomefront believes that with the right tools, all families can succeed. For families to becomeand, more importantly, remainstable, they need the tools, skills and opportunities to keep them on track and build self-sufficiency. Life skills are interwoven throughout all that we do, but we also have formal programming for: - educational support (high school equivalency tutoring/testing)- job training (job training, job placement, and career certification programming)personal wellnesswe believe that personal wellness whether physical, mental, or emotional is critical to ensuring thriving families. Homefront strives to increase accessibility to health services, both physical and mental, to enhance the well-being of families and children. We also recognize the importance of healing and growth through art. - formal life skills (teaching kitchen, health and wellness education, parenting workshops, etc.)- life enhancement (therapeutic art and sewing, music, performing arts, yoga, etc.)children once under homefront's care are now leaders in their classrooms, professionals in healthcare and business, and independent adults pursuing their dreams. Parents, with a little help in tough times, built sustaining careers and secured homes of their own. As the cost of living continues to rise, homefront remains committed to meeting the evolving needs of families until every individual possesses the tools and has the opportunity for success.
