Mission
Homeward bound has rescued and found permanent homes for more than 11,750 golden retrievers since its inception. Homeward bound rescues and heals displaced, abandoned, and homeless golden retrievers and golden mixes regardless of age or health. Homeward bound conducts a comprehensive adoption program, provides lifetime sanctuary for dogs that cannot be adopted, supports other rescues in times of need, and provides education on proper care including spay/neuter to reduce the number of homeless animals.
Programs
3 programs
Golden touch program. The "golden touch: a senior-to-senior connection" program matches senior goldens with retired persons and couples who are at least 60 years of age, not working, and on a limited income. The adoption fee is waived. The adopters ensure the dogs are fed, cared for and loved.
Foster program. Our short-term foster program frees space for more dogs and provides valuable information about how the dog behaves in a home. Long-term, permanent foster is available for very senior dogs and dogs with special needs. Homeward bound provides lifelong medical care reducing the burden on families so dogs that are otherwise not likely to be adopted can be home.
Compassionate care program: this program provides support for extraordinary medical, hospice, and end-of-life care so beloved and well-cared for dogs can remain in their homes.education: homeward bound educates the public regarding the importance of spay/neuter; how to choose a responsible breeder to end puppy mills; and the importance of training to reduce the number of unwanted and abandoned animals.
