Homewood Science Center

Stem saturdays is a free weekly program at the homewood science center designed for families with young children. It features interactive stem exhibits, a makerspace, hands-on activities, and guest stem professionals, fostering curiosity and learning in a fun, engaging environment. In 2024, we served 1116 families, 3351 household members, primarily from majority minority communities in chicago's south suburbs.

Girls steam celebration is an annual event at the homewood science center designed to inspire and empower girls in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (steam). The event features hands-on activities, interactive exhibits, and opportunities to engage with women professionals in steam fields, fostering confidence and curiosity in young learners.

Homewood science center also offers a number of other stem programs including a middle school conservation ecology internship that teaches students how to preserve and manage biodiversity and natural resources. The chicago southland stem network is a platform homewood science center created for parents, educators, nonprofits, business and industry leaders, and policymakers to work together to improve regional stem education and workforce development. There are also internship opportunities for high school volunteers; operates a community makerspace; maintains a native pollinator garden; presents films, exhibits, and a speaker series; teach kids' classes; and host robotics teams. Homewood science center is "a great big community classroom i can rely on," said one local parent.
