Mission
Our mission is to be a gospel people, a visible sign of Christian community: to live and work with the poor; to manifest the human concern of Jesus for all people; to promote dignity and respect for all; to help create a society where justice and truth abide. Present activities include adult education and GED prep, emergency financial assistance; neighborhood organizing; food pantry
Programs
2 programs
Our direct service program provided utility and rent assistance, food and clothing, ID's and TWIC cards to people in need. It also provided those assisted with advice and referrals. our food pantry was available to nearby residents. Appoximately 460 households received fiancial assistance from the program for rent, utilities, funerals, ID cards, etc.
Community organizing attempted to bring residents of our neighborhood together to create an empowered group focused on community improvement. Monthly community meetings, meetings with management of River Garden, and special events brought neighbors together to built community trust and power. This is hard, slow work. Achievement are small, like having meetings with management about slowness in responding to maintenance requests. No matter achievements yet.
