Mission

Houston Youth Symphony offered classical music education to 654 young musicians in the 23-24 season.

Programs

3 programs

The HYS Coda Music Program brings graduated, intensive string instruction to 234 students at five elementary schools in Houston ISD and four elementary schools in Fort Bend ISD. This after-school program uses classical music and group instruction to build community and social transformation through ensemble and performance opportunities. All programming was held in person for 28 weeks and presented 24 free performances.

The HYS Melody Program provides free private lesson instruction for low-income youth in grades 3-12. Thirty-four musicians performed in a mid-year jury and two free public recitals at the end of the season.

Expenses: $40K

The HYS Chamber Music Program provides members of the three most advanced orchestras with additional education and performance opportunities focusing on small ensemble music. Eighteen musicians in six ensembles performed at two assisted-living communities, one hospital, and two formal recitals.
