Dog Training: Napa Humane offers public dog training classes to cultivate positive behaviors and foster a strong bond between owners and their canine companions. Through structured sessions led by experienced trainers, dogs learn essential commands, leash manners, and socialization skills, promoting their safety and well-being, ideally keeping dogs out of shelters and in loving homes. Training enhances communication and understanding between dogs and their human counterparts, facilitating harmonious cohabitation. Additionally, training instills confidence in both dogs and owners, enriching their relationship and enabling them to navigate various environments with ease. Ultimately, our dog training classes strive to nurture happy, obedient, and well-adjusted dogs that enrich the lives of their families and communities. Classes are held year-round.

Case Management: In partnership with Napa County Housing & Homeless Services and Abode Services, our PAS Program provides care support to clients of Napa's adult emergency shelter and Day Center service program (both run by the non-profit Abode Services). Napa Humanes Case Manager works with identified unhoused clients who have pets, helping ensure the animals have access to veterinary care, vaccines, microchipping, spay/neuter, grooming, supplies and training all with the goal of keeping those beloved pets healthy and with their people.

Shelter Support: Under our Shelter Support program, Napa Humanes veterinarian provides the animals at the Napa County Animal Shelter with regular veterinary attention by providing bi-weekly rounds to examine the animals NCAS would like a medical opinion on. These exams may include treating skin issues, ear or eye infections, performing senior pet blood panels, managing in-house disease control, performing on-site cat neuters, and providing veterinary support and guidance to enhance pet care at the shelter overall.

Companion Connection: Each year we field hundreds of calls from pet owners with questions about their pets, from hopeful soon-to-be adopters with concerns about how to welcome a new pet into their family to pet owners experiencing a troubling behavior that might cause them to surrender, abandon, or turn out their companion animal. We help with our non-emergency behavior helpline to counsel and educate with the goal of creating and supporting humane homes for pets. Our goals are clear: helping people know the right time for a pet, know the right pet for their family, that a pet is one's pet for all of its life, and that every pet deserves a safe, respectful, and enriching environment.

Humane Education: Our outreach efforts engage hearts, hands, and minds for animals. We are in classrooms each week that schools are in session and in line with COVID protocols, with programs such as Responsible Pet Care and Safe with Cats and Dogs". We sponsor annual subscriptions to KIND News to over 100 classrooms reaching 3,100 students.

Wellness: Napa Humane holds quarterly, free veterinary wellness clinics for under served communities, primarily targeting low-income Latino neighborhoods. The goal of our clinic is to provide the animals, and the families who love them, with compassionate care and veterinary wellness services: vaccinations, deworming, flea control, dental checks, and treatment for skin, eye and ear infections. Supplies such as ID tags and microchips, collars, harnesses, chew toys, blankets and samples of new foods to try are provided free of charge. Additionally, unaltered pets are signed up for low-cost spay/neuter.

Disaster Preparedness & Response: Animals are affected by the same disasters and emergencies as people natural, man-made, large and small. Whether it's a wildfire, a flood, an earthquake, a chemical leak, an act of terrorism or a global pandemic, Napa Humane is vital to preparedness, response, and recovery efforts during and after disasters. This program focuses on ensuring that Napa Humane is able to continue operations or adapt services to meet the needs of the community during any disaster. Additionally, Napa Humane takes a role in educating pet owners on preparedness and planning for their pets in the event of a disaster. During times when a community disaster has been declared, Napa Humane assists the County of Napa in addressing the needs of pets and their people during and after the crises.
