Hanging Baskets -- IDA provides flower baskets which turn into beautiful balls of color hanging from every lightpost in the downtown area in the summer months.

Hop & Heritage festival -- celebrates the towns history as the Hop Capital of the World in the early 20th Century. Each year, beginning in July, thousands of pickers descended on the city, coming by boat, wagon and train for the hop harvest. They bedded down in tents in the hop yards, slept on straw, and cooked on sheet iron camp stoves. At the height of the hop era, in the 1920s and 1930s, there were close to 4,600 acres in the surrounding area planted for hops. (Independence City website)

Expenses: $2K

Mystery Dinner -- an engaging evening of food, fellowship, and drama feature local performers

Expenses: $2K

Ghost Walk -- extremely popular haunted Independence tour, with costumed hosts, inside tours of many downtown buildings, and local folklore presented by volunteers.

Expenses: $1K

Walk of Hearts -- A participatory fundraising activity; local residents and businesses sponsor red hearts with custom messages which are hung from lamp posts around the downtown area. This gives townspeople an opportunity to buy a heart for their sweetie and proclaim their love on a lamp post downtown throughout the month of February!

Airstreams on Main, and Holiday Lights -- These are two more programs that bring people and cheer to downtown Independence. The Airstreams arrive for a summer weekend and park along Main Street giving Airstream owners a chance to get to know the town, and the town a chance to see the range of Airstreams.
