Mission

Mission statement: to eliminate barriers so all people have the right to make their own decisions and exercise control over their own lives. The corporation will operate exclusively for religious, charitable, scientific, literary, educational or governmental purposes by providing advocacy, peer relationships and role models, independent living skills training and information and referral for persons with disabilities. This corporation shall assist such persons in promoting and practicing an independent living philosophy, by providing peer support, self-help, self-determination, equal access, deinstitutionalization, and individual and system advocacy in order to maximize the leadership, empowerment, independence and productivity of individuals with disabilities, and the integration and full inclusion of individuals with disabilities into the mainstream of american society consistent with and including the five core independent living services.

The public health worker (phw) grant provides independent connection the opportunity to focus on the public health and wellbeing of people with disabilities, support healthcare providers, and engage other community and independent living network partners. Independent connection provides support on a variety of topics that include vaccination, goal setting/skill building, social activities, mental health, food access, emergency preparedness, etc. That support older adults and people with disabilities.

To assist disabled persons in promoting and practicing an independent living philosophy, by providing peer support, self-help, self-direction, equal access, and individual and system advocacy in order to maximize the leadership, empowerment, independence and productivity of individuals with disabilities, and the integration and full inclusion of individuals with disabilities into the mainstream of american society consistent with and including the five core independent living services. Non-grant funded.

Kansas department for aging and disability services provided a grant to enhance the quality of life and promote independence for individuals living within the community. The grant focuses on providing resources and training to empower individuals with the tools and knowledge necessary for self-sufficiency and improved living conditions.
