Mission
The institute of cultures for the wimberley valley, inc, which does business as the wimberley institute of cultures or wic, was formed in the mid 1980s as a texas sesquicentennial project group to host events for wimberley's celebration of 150 years of texas independence. It then evolved into a local non-profit dedicated to preserving and educating about the historical and cultural aspects of the wimberley valley. In the early 1990's operations of the winters-wimberley house and grounds was transferred to wic from the wimberley senior citizens activities inc, who had recently procured this and the adjacent property from the wimberley family heirs. Following much restoration work on the old house which was in decline, the original plan was to use the facility as an event venue for meetings, receptions, etc. In december 2018, the wimberley valley museum was opened to attract visitors and provide education for understanding the history of the community.
