IAML runs a website to communicate its aims and activities to the general public. The website also has a reserved area for IAML members which serves for internal communication and as a cooperation tool for IAML's Sections and Committees, so that members are enabled to continue their work between the IAML Congresses when they meet in person.

IAML is an active institutional member in other associations in the field of libraries, archives and information management as well as music: i.e. IFLA (Int. Federation of Library Associations), IMC (Int. Music Council) and ICA (Int. Council on Archives).

IAML organizes an international Congress. The local Congress organizers are financially independent, but IAML contributes to the Congress to support logistics and attendance.

IAML supports young professionals and first-time attendees of its annual Congress by providing financial assistance for travel expenses and Congress registration.
