Human Rights Education: ICAAD developed an advocacy essentials human rights education program to train students, professionals, academics, artists, and activists to: better understand the root causes of structural discrimination and how it manifests; critically explore how systems change happens through an understanding of power-dynamics; and be exposed to a range of advocacy tools. ICAAD's Artivism program aims to advance social justice through the arts while supporting emerging human rights advocates around the world. We have offered virtual artist residencies to underrepresented artists working on human rights issues in the US, India, and New Zealand. These artists are given human rights training to develop new collections that are then exhibited through public arts projects both virtually and in-person. In-Kind Contributions: $0

ICAAD's Right to Life With Dignity (RTLWD) project addresses the significant gaps in legal protection for climate-displaced persons, both past and present, and aims to prevent further displacement in the future. To tackle this issue, ICAAD has assembled a multidisciplinary team of climate scientists, lawyers, technologists, local and indigenous activists, and social scientists to model legal protections and advocate for the Right to Life With Dignity for those affected by climate-induced displacement. ICAAD is exploring regional freedom of movement policies to assess the feasibility of a flexible, global legal framework for mobility justice. This initiative seeks to strike a balance between human rights and international cooperation, promoting sustainable solutions for displaced communities. Through collaboration with local civil society, ICAAD is also creating a toolkit designed to empower activists in addressing the harmful impacts of extractive industries on ecosystems, traditions, and social cohesion. This toolkit, which is informed by the shift from logging to mining as the primary extractive industry, will serve as a resource to enhance global advocacy efforts and strengthen local activism. TrackSDGs: ICAAD continued its work to advance monitoring of human rights and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by translating qualitative human rights data into actionable quantitative information for nonprofits, foundations, and UN agencies. In-Kind Contributions: $16,000

Countering Hate: Hate crime incidents are on the rise in the U.S., having increased nearly 31.2% in 2021 compared to the previous year. We are working to increase access to information around the prevalence of hate crimes, and identify where the gaps exist, in order to advocate for stronger protections for minority communities in the U.S. In-Kind Contributions: $422,100

Space Governance: Advocating for the recognition of outer space and celestial bodies as part of the global commons. This project challenges unilateral actions by states and private corporations that undermine international law by asserting property rights over celestial resources. Instead, we're calling for inclusive global conversations, particularly involving marginalized populations, to shape a just and equitable future for space exploration. In-Kind Contributions: $45,066; AI Harm: Developing a comprehensive taxonomy of harm related to the deployment of AI technologies. By addressing the rapid cross-border impacts of AI, this initiative seeks to establish accountability mechanisms that protect human rights and uphold ethical standards in the digital age.
