Icij is a global investigative journalism network, an international newsroom and a builder of open-source tools that make sense of massive, complex datasets. Our cross-border stories reveal broken systems and widespread corruption that undermine public good. By exposing wrongdoing and inequity, we hold power to account and provide information the world needs to right itself. Our pulitzer prize-winning panama papers is widely regarded as one of the most important stories of our time. It exposed how the wealthy hide money and dodge taxes. Publication led to the toppling of world leaders and the recovery of $1.4 billion in tax dollars and penalties around the world. We work at the intersection of shoe-leather reporting and cutting-edge technology, redefining journalism for a global, connected world.

Technology: our ambitious investigations rely on datashare, the open-source platform we built. Today, it is used not just by icij but by academics, government agencies, ngos and newsrooms worldwide. In 2024, we expanded its capabilities to support more languages, added an api that allows others to analyze their own data, and partnered with oslomet university and nrk to develop a tool that identifies passport data, streamlining verification work for journalists.research and data: icij maintains a secure research hub of 40 million documents for use by our partners. We also provide public access to about one million records in our offshore leaks and international medical devices databases. In 2024 alone, more than 2.9 million unique users viewed 14 million pages in our offshore leaks database.
