Mission

Ihaa's cultural immersion program teaches students and scholars from around the world to care for each other, to grow their understanding of other cultures and their own, and to embrace and respect differences. Through peer-to-peer diplomacy embedded in the residential living-learning program, community members develop conflict resolution skills and cultivate global friendships to build world peace.

Programs

2 programs

Programming to promote peace: ihaa's programming promoted cultural exchange and taught non-violent communication. The non-violent communication training provides tools for peaceful relationships to our residents. We offered numerous programs designed to promote a positive image of american culture to international students through field trips and events. Our workshops teach and encourage peaceful interactions and attitudes among people of many nations, especially those where conflict or discord are present. By fostering dialog and engagement at the grassroots level, our peer-to-peer diplomacy can help create a more peaceful and interconnected world.

Improving affordability: many of our residents are from low income or war-torn countries (including palestine, israel, ukraine, and sudan), and our reduced-rate housing defrays the cost of their housing during their exchange program. Still, ten percent of our residents have difficulty paying their rent. To address this, ihaa has created a new donor funded program to offer rent assistance to support qualified residents. During 2024, the program, processes, eligibility criteria, and fundraising goals were outlined. The fundraising goal has been met and the program will launch in 2025.
