Programs

PublicationsThe Organization serves as a critical content provider through our print and digital publications, which include the scholarly journal Leonardo as well as the Leonardo Book Series all published by The MIT Press. To meet the needs and interests of the community, the publishing program has grown to include online and digital publishing initiatives that explore experimental projects in interactive and emerging media, encompassing both open participation and peer-review practices.
Creative Impact LabsCreative Impact Labs are international exchanges that utilize innovative, community-driven, technology-powered art projects to address social and environmental challenges. The labs encourage mutual understanding and cross-border collaboration between creative communities around the globe. Creative Impact Labs are led by a U.S.-based artist and co-produced with a local cultural organization in the overseas exchange location. During the exchange, a selected U.S. lead artist facilitates a workshop series introducing creative practices in emerging media. Local participants then apply the skills theyve learned in the creation of project prototypes that address the chosen social or environmental challenge.
Residencies and Fellowship CollaborationsThe Organization partners with a variety of organizations to implement art science residencies, such as the Leonardo at Djerassi residency and Seize the Moment at ASU. The Organization and the Djerassi Resident Artists Program (DRAP) collaborate on the annual Leonardo at Djerassi artist/scientist residency that brings together artists and scientists for a month-long retreat in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Seize the Moment is an initiative of the Humanities Lab, Leonardo, and the Global Futures Laboratory at Arizona State University.
OthersOther programs include Art Experiences, E-newsletter, EdTech, Events, Experimental Media, Archiving, Leaf, Marketing, Member Support, etc.
LASER TalksLASER Talks (Leonardo Art Science Evening Rendezvous) is a program of international gatherings that bring artists, scientists, humanists, and technologists together for informal presentations, performances, and conversations with the wider public. The mission of LASER is to encourage contributions to the cultural environment of a region by fostering interdisciplinary dialogue and opportunities for community building.
NEA Research LabIn partnership with Virginia Polytechnical University, the Organization is serving as a NEA Research Lab exploring impact of the arts on business innovation and entrepreneurship.
