The intervale center's land stewardship program stewards their 360-acre campus in the intervale to balance agriculture, ecology, and public recreation and shares their collaborative farm and food system model widely. In 2024, they planted a new agroforestry buffer along the winooski river, expanded opportunities for volunteers to engage in invasive plant species management, and developed flood preparedness and response protocols in partnership with intervale farmers
The farm business services program strengthens farm viability and enhances statewide land access across vermont by providing personalized business consultation to farmers of all experience levels, administering an online tool for land matchmaking (vermont land link), and advancing targeted projects for sector development. In 2024, they provided 113 farms with business technical support and advanced projects to develop resources for commercial sheep producers in vermont.
The intervale food hub provides vermont farmers support through sales and services and manages a highly dignified free food program that works to ensure everyone has access to good food. Many aspects of the local food system rely on access that the intervale food hub providesfarmers accessing markets; added-value producers accessing storage infrastructure; institutional buyers and individuals accessing local product; delivery networks connecting with each other; and community members accessing free food. In 2024, they supported 76 local farms and food producers and distributed 110,786 pounds of free fresh produce to 706 households in chittenden county.
