Isf supported the gates foundation in identifying and assessing value chain finance opportunities that can increase access to affordable, fit for purpose credit to smallholder farmers in selected countries. The engagement included developing a "viability" model that can help understand, and identify, under what value chain and enabling environment conditions is there an incentive to finance smallholder production needs through global / regional and local offtakers, and how.
Isf is part of a 5-year usda funded initiative to promote cashew processing in west africa, in order to generate jobs and reduce the carbon footprint of raw cashews being shipped to asia for processing. Isf is responsible for mobilizing investment, and designed catalytic lending mechanisms to crowd in and de-risk private investments. Isf also provides matchmaking support to link agro-processors to relevant sources of domestic and foreign financing.
