Island roots housing's mission is to support the development and long term management of affordable housing, and educate the community on the need and opportunities for said housing and foster a "housing resiliency network" of housing developers and providers in island county washington. Irh's first development project is generations place, a permanently affordable apartment complex located in langley, washington.

Program revenue includes land and capitalized pre-construction activities held within a limited liability company, essential solutions llc, which was transferred from goosefoot community fund to island roots housing as sole member.
