The James Merrill House Foundation is organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes within the meaning of section 501(c)(3). The Corporation was formed to raise and receive money to establish, maintain and, as appropriate, expend funds from an endowment to further the legacy of James Merrill, one of America's great poets, to preserve the national historic landmark that was Merrill's residence at 107 Water Street, Stonington, Connecticut and its contents (the "James Merrill House") and to create and promote programs related to James Merrill and/or to the James Merrill House.
