Acquired land parcel as bufferacquired land adjacent to japf's state-designated nature preserve, the freeport prairie (fpnp). Fpnp is a rare remnant dry dolomite prairie ecosystem, which represents the 19% remaining in the north central and northwest 7 counties. The fpnp is surrounded by businesses and cropland. The parcel was purchased to provide a buffer for the fpnp for prescribed fire, increased prairie size, entrance for public access and educational signage.
