Hitachi japanese kite workshops (october 21-25,2024)asami toki, daughter and apprentice of japanese kite master mikio toki, from japan along with staff and volunteers from the japan america society of southern california (jassc) visited 9 elementary schools and held 10 workshops, serving over 540 children, in southern california to teach the students how to make a japanese kite made of japanese washi paper and bamboo. The kites, which are tailor-made for children, are the design of japanese kite master mikio toki, who prepared the kite materials along with asami toki. The kite workshops are offered at no cost to the schools. It is a way jassc gives back to the community through this educational program that introduces japanese culture to the students. The hands-on workshops help instill a "can do" attitude in the children and open their eyes to a whole new world outside of their local neighborhoods. Many of the children are from underserved communities. Started in 2001, the japanese kite workshops have served a total of over 18,000 children.supported by a generous contribution from hitachi, ltd.

2024 japan bowl of california benkyoukai (february 23-march 29,2024)the benkyoukai is a japan language education program established by the japan america society of southern california in 2021. The benkyoukai provided high school students an exploratory course to prepare for the national japan bowl competition in washington, d.c. Through a series of 3 weekly online interactive lecture sessions and the final cultural day celebration, students are offered a supportive learning environment to supplement the linguistic skills they gain at their schools and a unique chance to network with other students who are studying the japanese language and who have a passion for japan. 2024 young professionals career workshop: build your career strategy (june 18, 2024)the japan america society of southern california (jassc) presented this interactive workshop that helped participants learn the "ideal" strategy to help build their career, based on their experience, aspirations, and skills. This career growth and leadership workshop was followed by a social networking mixer. The workshop was a hybrid format where participants could either attend in-person or join online.hosted by kuehne and nagel and held at their offices in torrance, california11th annual women's leadership counts conference "dear young me" (november 21, 2024)this year's theme was "dear young me", which was deeply reflective and thought provoking.
