Community outreach - the jlp has been focusing on food insecurity. Our current and future projects will help create a positive impact on the health and wellness of adults and children in the greater philadelphia area, encompassing interactive educational curriculum and on increasing the region's capacity to supply and distribute healthy food to families in need. The kids in the kitchen committee creates, maintains and manages nutrition and culinary programming for children. Their programing helps instill the importance of healthy living and nutrition. Over 120 students participated in kitk programming during the 2022-2023 league year. The food to families committee lead and train volunteers in the monthly bagging day activities (bagging, boxing, harvesting) at the share food program, inc., a nonprofit organization serving a regional network of community organizations engaged in food distribution, education, and advocacy. During 2022-2023, the committee assisted in the bagging of more than 66,000 pounds of food to be distributed. The junior league of philadelphia also provides opportunities for its members to make a difference in a short time, through its "done in a day" (diad) volunteer opportunities building relationships with other volunteer organizations. Diad events tie into the apple a day healthy living initiative or the league's training mission.

Professional development - as a training organization, a large portion of our revenue is spent on educating our membership. Trainings provided span a variety of topics including the fundamentals of leadership, improving communication, finance, fundraising techniques, strategic planning and development, and the league's food security initiative. Trainings are conducted through small group workshops, committee experience, and all-member events. Additionally, selected leaders travel to locations across the country to participate in trainings offered by our parent organization, the association of junior leagues international.
