Community grants are awarded to organizations that empower the local berks county community. The sustainer membership of the junior league of reading awarded community grants to organizations that align with their mission. Grants were awarded as follows:(1) berks youth chorus, a choral and music education organization - $500 (2) voiceup berks - $1,500(3) girls on the run berks county - $1,000(4) opportunity house - $2,300(5) connections work - $2,500

The jlr young women's summit is a day-long workshop/forum for young women ages 11-16 years old supported by the junior league of reading, pa, inc. (jlr) and community volunteers. The purpose of the summit is to engage a diverse group of young women from reading and berks county in a meaningful dialogue that will 1) expand their developmental assets, 2) cultivate their leadership skills, and 3) empower them to make a difference in their community through civic engagement and the creation of a community project. The summit was developed as part of the jlr's new multi-year initiative healthy choices, healthy kids, focused on promoting healthy bodies, healthy environments, and health self esteem in our youth. The workshop is hosted on twice on two different weekends.
