See schedule oduring 2023-2024, the nyjl reached thousands through its community programs. Volunteers designed and led lessons, workshops, field trips, and support sessions in partnership with nearly 60 community organizations. Leveraging their diverse skills, our trained volunteers enhanced children's social-emotional learning and delivered essential life skills programs to youth and adults facing challenging transitions.in 2023-2024, the nyjl worked across several areas of community and training programming:1) adult education and mentoring: partnering with organizations such as avenues for justice, new york-presbyterian hospital, the new jewish home, share cancer support, the manhattan family justice center, and the english speaking union, nyjl volunteers lead life skills and job readiness workshops, offer emotional support and companionship, empower clients toward self-sufficiency, and raise awareness of critical issues affecting new york city adults.2) children's education, culture and the arts: nyjl volunteers design innovative programs and resources to boost learning and cultural awareness among children from underserved communities. In partnership with organizations like the stanley m. Isaacs neighborhood center and scan-harbor, they engage children of all ages in hands-on science and art activities, reading workshops, mentoring, and leadership development, inspiring curiosity and nurturing educational aspirations.3) child health and welfare: child health and welfare programs champion the belief that everyone deserves the resources and opportunities to learn, grow, and thrive. In partnership with community organizations like scan-harbor, good shepherd services, and rising ground, nyjl volunteers mentor children and young adults to build self-esteem, deepen self-awareness, cultivate positive relationships, and enhance physical and mental well-being.4) city impact: always ready to answer urgent community needs, the new york junior league mobilizes volunteers for immediate, short-term service that enables partners to meet their missions and clients' needs. In the city impact program, volunteers team up with the nyc parks department to restore a manhattan park annually, while others renovate community spaces each year.5) advocacy: the advocates for public policy (app) committee champions legislation and policy on behalf of the new york junior league, focusing on issues that impact new york city residents and align with our mission. As a member of the new york state public affairs committee (nyspac), we collaborate with 16 junior leagues statewiderepresenting over 7,500 womento shape policies affecting women, children, and families.6) training and leadership development: staying true to its mission, nyjl prioritizes leadership development, collaboration, and training. Through a variety of volunteer training and leadership development programs, we enhance volunteers' expertise with hands-on workshops, expert-led panels, committee roles, and leadership opportunities. These initiatives equip women with practical nonprofit management skills and a deeper understanding of critical community issues.
