Research on community-related environmental issues - engages hundreds of staff and volunteers from throughout the midwest in citizen science projects that provide important data for monitoring and protecting our natural resources. Focuses include the nation's longest running bird banding program, avian surveys, leading the butterfly monitoring network, monarch tagging, nest box monitoring and aquatic sampling.

Stewardship of cooper's glen & other natural areas - our conservation staff manages and protects 1,400 acres of land within the kalamazoo rier watershed including forests, prairies, arboretum, ponds, fen and wetlands. Knc's acreage encompasses the entire trout run stream watershed that leads to over 2 miles of frontage along the kalamazoo river. In addition, knc's conservation team is contracted to provide land management for thousands of acres of public and private land each year.
