The kiwanis club of lafayette sponsors and conducts a regional spelling bee for the 8-parish area of acadiana and the champion of the 6th-8th grade division wins a trip to the scripps national spelling bee.
The kiwanis club of lafayette holds an annual event it called "operation magi" where members volunteer to facilitate shopping for christmas gifts for underprivileged and homeless school-age children, coordinating with the local school system to identify needy children and providing funds to buy needed and wanted items around the christmas season for these needy children who otherwise would likely not have christmas gifts.
